Review by Ryan Harkin

We set off soon after 2pm for the 160 mile journey to Nottingham. We loaded the car up with Pring and Suicidal Tendancies CDs (especially for Cycopeter) and were on our way. We made good time and found a parking space right by the venue.

Just as we were approaching the tour bus, we were met by Monte who invited us on board. We were chatting for a little while when new bass player Mike arrived. I gave him the third degree on behalf of the regulars on the forum. Important questions needed to be answered: What is your FULL name? What bands have you been in before? How did you get into Prong? Well, he's Mike Longworth, he used to be in Underground Moon, and he got the job by overhearing a telephone conversation where his friend was being offered an audition but couldn't make it. Mike, a long time Prong fan, jumped on the chance and got the gig.

There was time for a quick photo opportunity before we headed off for food. You wouldn't think it would be that hard to find a curry in a city as large as Nottingham, but if you're ever there, don't bother with City Spice.

After driving so far, you'd think that we'd have bought tickets to make sure we got in, but that would have been too easy! Luckily, Monte signed us in and made sure that we would be allowed to take photos without getting bounced. I was left in charge of Monte's camera, so Batman took charge of the official unofficial photos for the night.

Rock City's The Rig is a strange venue. The roof is so low, the band doesn't get a riser for the stage. With the security fence infront of the stage, it is a bit like watching them play in a cattle pen! The crowd numbers are low tonight; there are about 100 people in a 300-400 capacity venue. Luckily, you have to cram so far forward to see anything; the atmosphere is boosted a little. We made some new friends, Dave and Phil, who travelled up from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales (send me an email guys). They have been hardcore Prong fans since seeing them support Faith No More back in 1990. It is a little know secret that Batman is Welsh, so us four Celts decide we are going to take on the rest of the venue and show them how its really done.

Most of the locals don't want to jump around too much. If a great rendition of Beg To Differ wasn't enough, Another Worldly Device convinces more of them that it is their only option. Tommy amuses the crowd by announcing that he went for a hot curry the night before in Bradford and that "Yes, my ass is sore!" The second half of the set picks up from here and just before they go off, there are quite a few of us jumping around to Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck.

They finish with an encore of Close The Door followed by Embrace The Depth and the band look like they need a rest. The club was open afterwards, but we bid our goodbyes and set off for the drive home: we've got London tomorrow night!
